The Timeless Classics

Post by -ALT- on 2010-12-15, 00:27

Hi everybody! Let's talk a little about classical music~! big smile Classical music is not restricted to music composed by those long-gone legendary figures like Beethoven and Mozart, it also encompasses compositions such as those by John Williams and the ones we heard in 'Space Odyssey'~

From the thrill-seeking Liszt, to the grandiosity of Tchaikovsky's symphonies, are there any classical composers or pieces that have won your heart? Do you listen to classical pieces? Why and why not~? smile

Personally, I'm in love with Chopin (his fantasy impromptu is epic; although the minute waltz is so adorable!) XD I also love pieces by Bach, Vivaldi and many other great composers of the era. Having the opportunity to play and study classical music for more than 15 years, I guess, I'm already deeply intoxicated beat-plaster

For the starters~ maybe you might want to listen to this piece (It's actually composed by Wakita Jun, from GUST, yup, one of those who made music for Ar Tonelico and works with Shikata san). It's beautiful, enigmatic and in some sense, addictive.

Yay! Another fan of classical musics! big smile *excited*

I love classical musics ever since I watched La Corda D'Oro and Nodame Cantabile. Those two series totally won my heart. My favorite composer so far is Tchaikovsky. All his songs I ever heard always become my favorite. Then comes Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 (in Nodame Cantabile), then Mozart and Beethoven. In fact, I don't really like Bach. He's from Baroque, right? I prefer Classical or Romantic, hehe~

Wow, 15 years? Studying that long is awesome. What makes you so interested that you study it so long?

Anyway, trying that Sasoribi right now. smile

Yay phio! *hi-5* XD Bach composed music of both times~ he composed pieces for baroque as well as classical~ try his harpsichord concerto~ smile But you're right, some of his works can be hard to understand.

Both La Corda D'Oro and Nodame Cantabile have some outstanding renditions that are actually on par with some of the best orchestra around.
Personally, i find some of Mozart's pieces a little too restrained. If you wanna try out more 'fun' musicians, probably you can catch a video or two by 'Fazil Say' (his music sense is unique, although i'm withholding my judgment of him though~)

Music is actually not my current major~ I started violin since I was a preschooler under the guidance of my beloved granny~ so I've literally 'studied' under her XD Through the journey, I also started playing other instruments~ Although I would like to learn how to play a harp like Nonomino one day!

Does phio play music too? What about others? smile

Oh yes, for those who hates the gloomy' classical music, I have a fun way to get you all started... which is... to catch.. VICTOR BORGE (beware of getting stomachache from laughing too hard).

I love classical music. I don't know why I took so much time to reply...

If I had to choose my favourite compositor, hm... I would probably say Grieg. Peer Gynt music is just amazing (I have the whole incidental music in my iPod). In The Hall of the Mountain King makes me chill everytime I hear it.
It was really difficult to choose, because I love Wagner and Tchaikovsky too...
(Talking about Tchaikovsky, my mother and I wanted to go and see the Swan Lake in february, but there were no places left...)

And, hmm... I like Chopin like you -ALT-. And I like Debussy as well. smile Debussy's music is so soothing... And Ravel! Pavane pour une infante défunte is so beautiful...

Mozart was my favourite when I was a child (I still love him though).
I'm not too fond of Beethoven but he sure was a genius. His Moonlight Sonata makes me cry whenever I listen to it.

I love opera too. Last year I had the luck to go and see Manon Lescaut by Puccini with my litterature class. It was marvelous. I wish I could see Madama Butterfly someday...

-ALT- you're so lucky to know how to play the violin. **

Uwaa~ Classical music.. embarrassed I really love them...

My favorite composers are Rachmaninoff and Schubert...
My favorite piece is Piano Concerto No.2 by Rachmaninoff of course... big smile
Oh, I love Canon in D too... What a master piece... ^-^

It's too bad that i can't play any instrument.. (I can play organ actually but badly since I always forget the chords)
I envy you guys... T.T

Actually I love every kind of instrumental music, not just the classical one... Instrumental music helps my imagination because it is not as restricted as the music with lyrics... Classical music is good to improve my mood too... ^-^
Oh, have you watch Youtube Symphony Orchestra this year...? It's really awesome... They combined classical music with techno... big smile Oh, and there's guzheng too... You know guzheng, right?

Rachmaninoff is one of my fav too! Canon in D is indeed a master piece~ many people played that for their wedding XD

I haven't had the chance to watch this year's symp orchestra~ I'll find a day to catch them XD

Yup~ I know Guzheng~ I played it along with my sister for some time... I stopped after a year but my sister continued until now~ smile Suddenly the combination that you mentioned reminds me of Hisaishi Joe's Asian XTC concert~ <3

Canon in D is everywhere, not just weddings... Hahaha~

I never watch any orchestra but I hope someday I will... ^-^

Guzheng is a unique instrument, I used to see it in Chinese action movies... (you know, the old ones with people who fight while flying... XD)
I want to be able to play it too, but it's kinda hard to do that here since the instrument is almost non-existent here. sad
Try to watch the Youtube Symphony Orchestra 2011 in youtube... It was held in Sydney Opera House... Another awesome thing besides the orchestra was the beautiful projections on the Opera House's roof. ^-^
